Democratic Primaries
In reply to the discussion: Unreal. And people say Bernie's supporters are rude. [View all]Sapient Donkey
(1,568 posts)At least on the wilder parts of social media (not here on DU) there is a much larger number of extremely hostile and undiplomatic Sander supporters. A lot of "If I don't get my way with everything, then I am going to watch it all burn, and you not agreeing with me on everything makes you an awful horrible person" There is far more "my candidate or bust" sentiments than you get with any other candidate's supporters. I just read a thread in which someone said he will only vote for Bernie in the general, and that had lots of likes and people commenting in agreement. You might see that on a smaller scale with other candidates, but that often leads to people trying to sway the person to take a different stance.
Also. there are far more cruel (although mostly harmless) memes from Sander's supporters against Biden, Warren, Buttiegeig, and to some extent Klobuchar than there are against Bernie coming from other democratic supporters (conservative attacks don't count) Not to mention the crazy stuff we see like that one local bernie campaign guy who defended Stalin's gulags and promoted re-education camps in the US and said cities will burn if Sanders didn't win. I thought that was too ridiculous to be real, but sadly it seems like it was. And weird stuff like that pops up every so often. If it was just one then it's like whatever, but there always seems to be something.
There are also Bernie surrogates like David Sirota spreading misinformation and twisting the truth in the most dishonest ways possible. Take the story from him about beto o'rourke in which he implied Beto was getting large amounts of funding from big oil special interest groups, but if you dug a little you would see they were all individual donations from people who just happened to work at a company in the oil/gas industry...But he's from Texas in which the oil and gas industry employs a large percentage of the population. Not to mention the stuff he did in 2016 in which on election day he was writing hit pieces on Clinton.
Anyway, the point is that to me it seems like there is a lot more vitriol and "us vs them" coming from a lot of Sander's supporters when compared to other candidates.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
