I grew up with my biological family and heard the names of my great-grandparents and great-great grandparents in family stories. So, on a genealogy surname message board, I recognized the names in someone else's post. I responded to that post and the poster and I discovered that we are 3rd cousins. He sent me a photo of our great-great grandparents which no one in my family had seen. I forwarded it to my uncle who was very pleased to get it. He immediately saw a resemblance to his mother (my grandmother).

So 3rd cousins can have helpful info, even photos, of people we are looking for.
