might have to deal with because of the insane, brutal Trump regime, and that's likely to keep some away even if they'd planned on attending.

This idiocy with using ChatGPT to vet participants, though, is likely to affect almost everyone there, especially if the organizers who created this mess don't toss everything done so far and start over, with humans doing the work. And they're running out of time for people to make plans if those plans are at all dependent on how much they'll be participating.

Plus the people who thought ChatGPT use would be just fine showed a stunning lack of respect and concern for all the writers, artists and filmmakers whose work has been ripped off and exploited. Those who did make this decision and cooperated with it should be identified and should sign the "fuller apology" the worldcon chair is promising will be offered next week. Otherwise, other organizers in no way involved with this ChatGPT fiasco will be unfairly suspect and blamed.

You really can't support use of generative AI that rips off creatives, and at the same time claim - credibly, anyway - to support those creatives and the arts.
