R's have a tiny, razor thin majority and that is a highly unpopular position even in red states. But say they did, then it's 1850 all over again with the Fugitive Slave Act. VT, ME, MA, MI, WI and several other states passed state legislation making enforcement of the federal act all but impossible within their state borders. And no, Donny won't send the US military to enforce it. President Millard Fillmore floated that idea over the Fugitive Slave Act, but was quickly talked off that ledge because it was political suicide. This is even bigger political suicide.
