(20,205 posts)We've got you covered and we're not cooperating. I doubt seriously if anything like that could ever pass Congress. R's have a tiny, razor thin majority and that is a highly unpopular position even in red states. But say they did, then it's 1850 all over again with the Fugitive Slave Act. VT, ME, MA, MI, WI and several other states passed state legislation making enforcement of the federal act all but impossible within their state borders. And no, Donny won't send the US military to enforce it. President Millard Fillmore floated that idea over the Fugitive Slave Act, but was quickly talked off that ledge because it was political suicide. This is even bigger political suicide.

(7,553 posts)As the new 'Emperor For Life', he will do what he wants. He does not care that everything around him burns as long as he has his sycophants to whisper how great he is into his tiny little ears. They will not care as long as they think he will protect them. He does not care about political parties except when they kiss his ass. He will be Nero, and he will stand and act like nothing is wrong.
Then, we get the Second Coming. Ole J.D. will let in all the evangelical crazies and whomever gives him attention, just as the orange gibbon does.

(20,205 posts)He just wants to grift and stay out of jail. Why do people have this overarching need for super boogeymen? A condition found both on the right and the left. Will he fuck up some things? Certainly. Is he the second coming of some Marvel Comics super duper villain? No. He's a moron, in bad health and he's still controlled by the same political realities as everyone else. Remember, the majority of Americans didn't vote for him. They either voted for Harris or didn't vote. And many of those who did are either having buyer's remorse or soon will be.
Even Putin, the other arch super duper villain some here think is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent is having to use cheap, proxy cannon fodder in his failed war with Ukraine because he knows mass conscription of his own people won't fly. That's off the table if he wants to keep his job. So stop with the crazy shit and wallowing around in self pity. It's annoying and only increases your blood pressure, taking years off your life.

(20,058 posts)This was just what I needed to read right now. I can only take so much gloom and doom without losing my marbles, and I feel like I'm drowning in it these days. It's completely understandable, of course, that people are posting in that vein a lot, but knowing and understanding that doesn't change how it affects my mental health. So this was a very refreshing change that I needed more then I realized!

(5,038 posts)THANK YOU! I agree with all you said. The doom and gloom on top of everything else gets to be a bit much. It does no one any good. I appreciate your wise words, paleotn.

(20,205 posts)I don't do angst. Some may wallow around in it. Most times unnecessarily. Not me.

(20,205 posts)My name is George McClellan. Me and my angst-mister, Allan Pinkerton, thought Bobby Lee had hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of well armed, well provisioned troops. Turns out he didn't. In reality, Lee's army was under strength, they were poorly fed, and many without shoes, and all that wasn't terribly hard to confirm. Could have won several battles, The Peninsula Campaign, Antietam to name a few, and quite possibly the war 2 to 3 years early IF I'd not taken council of my ill informed, irrational fears.
The little Corsican here. Just want to say, despite the hand thing, he was no student of mine. My students don't do that shit. They make the other guy take council of their irrationally fears, like they feared my hat. Except Wellington. He didn't play that game.
