If GOP blocks Puerto Rico statehood, could New York State annexation be a first step alternative? [View all]

If it became clear that Republicans intended to block Puerto Rican statehood, would Puerto Ricans favor becoming part of New York State as a first step toward eventual Puerto Rican statehood?

New York obviously has more political and economic clout to help make things happen at the national level.

BTW, there is precedent for significantly expanding a state's borders.

Nevada is one of only two states to significantly expand its borders after admission to the Union. (The other is Missouri, which acquired additional territory in 1837 due to the Platte Purchase.)

In 1866 another part of the western Utah Territory was added to Nevada in the eastern part of the state, setting the current eastern boundary.
