5. that is how I used to think about teevee and "the news"

nope. if you interact with other thinking human beings and pay attention you will learn all the important news just fine. you also won't be bogged down with the vast amounts of total bullshit. the internet is also full of bullshit but there is still good information available as well so to me it is much more like knowing good people whereas passive absorption of regular broadcast entertainment and/or "news" just seems to make people ignorant and less intelligent, not "more informed"

he has WWOOFers, they tend to be pretty well informed and are often international travelers.

also I didn't hear that he didn't have internet. all doable with solar and various rural wifi type setups.
