I wonder whether Mr. Cooper would recommend cannibalism? Or dismemberment for thieves? Or using fresh excrement as medicine? Slavery was an abomination, whether it was practiced on one's fellow countrymen or on people from halfway across the world. The 17th-18th century effort to permanently doom an entire race of humans to perpetual slavery, however, was a new and hideous layer of this ancient evil.
