Traveling on AMTRAK [View all]

I am about to embark on an overnight trip on Amtrak.

So far, I am finding this a fairly frightening experience.

There is a video playing in the station that is one terrifying vignette after another. They are talking about armed people coming on to the train, about people stealing all your belongings and other very distressing scenarios. These are being narrated by law enforcement officers with bullet proof vests and heavily armed.

Their theme is : take flight, take cover, take action.

Then there is the overhead announcements which talk about homeland security and how you can be randomly searched at any moment.

What the hell? I can't remember the last time I hear about an incident on a train.
