3. The NFL has undergone a massive change in their COVID rules in the last couple of weeks

which not accidentally coincides with so many players testing positive that games were in danger of being canceled... Just as the end of the season and playoffs were arriving. The worst time of year for a schedule disruption, money-wise.

"Red alert! Red alert! Revenue is in danger!!! All hands on deck! We need ideas for how to bamboozle the public into thinking we're not sociopathic moneygrubbers!"

So they went full TFG and decided the problem was too much testing. So they minimized testing. That helped, but not enough. Still too many positives...

Fortunately for their pocketbooks, the CDC bailed them out by changing some of their official recommendations. So the NFL grabbed that little fig leaf and ran with it.

Now players can return 5 days after testing positive as long as they don't have a fever and self-report no symptoms. Y'all remember how self-reporting concussions went (still goes)?
