This makes them heavy, bulky, very hard to conceal, and shortens the barrel for any given firearm length. Yet, they're "assault weapons".

... you can grab that forwarded-mounted magazine like a second grip in order to facilitate "spray firing from the hip." Y'know, like the Olympic shooters do with their Pardinis and Hämmerlis ...
