Today, 25 House members endorsed a personhood amendment to the constitution that would, if passed by legislators in the 2012 session and approved by voters in November, prohibit abortions by giving legal status to a fetus and limit the availability of certain forms of birth control. Conservatives in at least 12 states are pursuing similar initiatives, even after the unexpected defeat of a personhood amendment in Mississippi.
