(Sometimes the daughter happens to be the son, but that is pretty rare and still annoying.)
This is generally a massively lazy plot device. Also it is misogynist.
The ITD, for example, is told to not go out because 'the bad guys' are going to strike, but ITD has to go to the mall to see her friends. The bad guys capture ITD. Plot moves forward. Viewer stops watching.

That bugs me too. I have even seen someone tripping a fire alarm and all of the sprinklers coming on.

Yes. That is a BIG issue for me. I don't own monstrous sized tvs so I rarely can read any of it.
