Aversion therapy to "cure" homosexuality was tried and it didn't work.
Yes the scientists were all wrong in the first place, but when it didn't work, they stopped.

Nowadays it's a science versus fundamentalist thing, but unlike other such issues the supposedly fundamentalist position got a thorough disproving at the hands of honest people who wanted it to work. Throwing in a little prayer isn't going to fix it.
