Maybe telling the soldiers their families would be harmed if they returned because they would be "cowards". North Korea doesn't want their soldiers to return if captured. They would be able to tell other North Koreans how much they've been mislead by their government. Russia is just using them as cannon fodder and doesn't care if they die.
