The fact that this teacher even got to the microphone to speak is miraculous. It's all orchestrated. One of the most undemocratic processes I've ever seen. I was at the microphone many times last summer in Detroit and stood there for way too long and was never given a turn to speak. Discussion goes on for what seems like forever on many topics but the chair running the convention gets to decide who speaks and for how long. And if you make a mistake, like forget to start with your name and what local you are representing, your microphone is turned off and you're done.

This teacher got to the microphone at a convention with 10,000 delegates. One of the largest convention gatherings in the country.

So you bet this speech matters. And on the first day. That's great.
