Colombia's congress votes to ban bullfights, dealing a blow to the centuries-old tradition

1. When I was 15 in 1959, my Spanish Club took a bus to Mexico.

One highlight of the tour was a bullfight, after which a matador reached into the stands and handed my teacher a bloody bull's ear, and the crowd applauded.

This is a surreal memory to have. I watched an execution, and really had no opinion about it at the time. Scary how malleable children are.
