Texting anything back tells them you've read the text. So now your number is much more valuable to spammers than a randomly generated number. Sadly, the same logic applies to answering the phone.

And you can't block them, because they've spoofed the originating number and can appear from anything.

Just delete it and pressure the new admin to implement verified secure caller-id and block faked text messages too.
