4. I've had plenty of bad luck with 2.5" drives in newer Macs.

3.5" drives in older Macs are mostly still working, after more than a decade. I can't get the 2.5" drives to last much over a year. And the OS X Disk Utility doesn't seem to repair much of anything that I've encountered.
