2. I'm told you must set up a photobucker or imgur account. After you upload them there, you link them.

I've been on other message board sites that allow one to simply drag the photo off the desktop or through the browse function to the image section of one's home page. The site assigned a location for them. AFAIK, DU does not provide this function, and only takes pix that are jpg, png, etc. with links. Someone else may pop up with a better answer, but that's all I know. Hope that helps.
