Boris Johnson wrote that 'Islam is the problem' and defended Islamophobia as a 'natural reaction'
LONDON Boris Johnson was today reported to the Equalities Commission after comparing Muslim women who wear burqas to "letter boxes" and bank robbers.
...
It is not the first time that Johnson has pushed Islamophobic tropes.
...
"To any non-Muslim reader of the Koran, Islamophobia fear of Islam seems a natural reaction, and, indeed, exactly what that text is intended to provoke," he wrote.
"Judged purely on its scripture to say nothing of what is preached in the mosques it is the most viciously sectarian of all religions in its heartlessness towards unbelievers."
...
In the wake of the London bombings, he also questioned the loyalty of British Muslims and insisted that the country must accept that "Islam is the problem."

Boris Johnson's Facebook page hosts hundreds of Islamophobic comments after burqa row
Boris Johnsons official Facebook page is host to hundreds of Islamophobic messages, a newspaper investigation has found.
The Sunday Times said an examination of his web page uncovered calls to ban Islam, deport Muslims and vile attacks on London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
It comes after the former foreign secretary mocked women wearing the niqab and burqa as looking like letterboxes and bank robbers, with one Facebook follower praising him for having the bottle to start getting rid of these bloody Muslims.
A source close to the former foreign secretary said he totally condemns the hateful views posted by a small minority on his Facebook followers.

He couldn't bring himself to condemn the views in person.
Don't like the Trump comparison? Tough.

So youre Donald Trump now? Boris Johnson grilled as he doubles down on controversial Burka comments
This was the moment Boris Johnson was accused of behaving like Donald Trump by LBC host Nick Ferarri on Monday morning after he said he stands by controversial comments he made about Muslim women.
Ghassem in Lewisham told the former Tory frontbencher during a phone-in on the LBC breakfast show that his niece had been assaulted on a bus by a man in his 40s who had tried to take off her niqab, who also tried to strangle her mum when she attempted to defend the teenager.
LBC host Nick Ferrari asked the former Mayor of London: do you agree that you brought about unfortunate anti-muslim rhetoric?

Boris Johnson 'will dine with Donald Trump' when US president makes state visit to UK in June
Boris Johnson will have a private audience with Donald Trump during his state visit to Britain, according to friends of the president.
One scenario could see Mr Trump hosting a private dinner party at Winfield House, the US ambassador's palatial London residence, where he will stay during the trip due to the ongoing renovations at Buckingham Palace.
The US leader is also considering including Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage on the guest list, sources close to the plans suggested.
...
He has previously described Mr Johnson as a 'friend' who would make a 'great prime minister'.

What the world - and especially the UK - needs right now is another glib, amoral opportunist in power. Thank goodness you're here to defend him.
