4. Absent from local media reporting here: the impact of climate change on this flood.

We had a couple of extreme heat waves this summer, resulting in nearly 600 deaths in BC. Extreme heat means increased evaporation of lakes and oceans.

That water doesn’t just disappear into outer space, it eventually comes back to earth in the form of rain- in this case, a tremendous amount of rainfall, much of it condensed into just a few days, but October was something like 160% of average rainfall as well.
