Rene Lesvesque, was asked if it would come to blows. He said canada would not do that. It was the 1970s. People were into talking more. Canadians across the country changed how they went to school (in french immersion) and accepted Quebec's insistance on protecting it language. There is a Donald Britton documentary called "Champions" that went into the early struggle between canada and quebec over separation. We had leaders in Pierre Elliot Trudeau and Rene Levesque who were both very democratic and of good character. Rene didn't want to fool quebecers into getting independance. He wanted it to be real if it happened. Integrity was a thing back then. I'm afraid Kenney comes from the american right wing school of win at all cost and destroy democracy while you are at it if it means you and your tight group of rich american benefactors get what they want no matter who or what it destroys. Alberta politically is a franchise of republican elites in the usa.
