He has been named "Makaio", Laotian for "Gift from God", by popular vote, with each vote accompanied by a donation to an organization that works to preserve gibbon habitats in southeast Asia. Makaio's mother and grandmother live at the Nashville Zoo, and his healthy bloodline will make him part of a breeding program when he is older.
