No Gun Rights Rally for You, says Kent State [View all]
KENT, Ohio (WKBN) - Kent State University has told a recent graduate she has to stop advertising a rally on its campus, saying she hasn't properly registered the event.
Kaitlin Bennett's graduation picture, which showed her on Kent State's campus with her graduation cap and AR-10, went viral in May.
She's planning a Second Amendment rights rally for September 29 but Kent State said she didn't get the approval required by university policy.
The rally advertised several speakers not affiliated with the university, according to Kent State. Bennett said it will also be live streamed.
University leaders also said the event doesn't meet a policy mandating that a registered student organization or university department sponsor an event.
Kent State's statement on the rally said the university "upholds the right to free speech and values respectful dialogue from all points of view." However, it said event organizers have to follow the university's rules and policies.
