Trump staff dislikes having lie pointed out [View all]

When you write that a presidential candidate just lied again, it tends to get the attention of the campaign.

Donald Trump told a few thousand at a rally Thursday in Wilmington that “Our trade deficit with the proposed TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) member countries cost the state of Ohio more than 100,000 manufacturing jobs last year. Imagine how many more jobs would be lost if TPP was actually approved.”

It was the same claim Trump had made during an earlier Ohio visit, a number that was debunked by Dispatch Reporter Randy Ludlow, who found that Ohio actually gained manufacturing jobs in 2015. Thus our story saying Trump had repeated a falsehood.

Still, the Trump campaign insisted he didn’t just make the number up, pointing to a March 2016 study by the Economic Policy Institute — ironically, a pro-labor group that Democrats love to cite.
