LANSING A state representative told Michigan State Police troopers he had approval over their budget and threatened to call Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer as he tussled with them after driving his car into a ditch while drunk on Interstate 96 near Fowlerville, according to police reports obtained under Michigans Freedom of Information Act.
Rep. Jewell Jones, D-Inkster, at one point identified himself as a state representative and at another point flashed a badge and said he was an-off duty officer during the April 6 incident, according to the reports prepared by MSP officials and obtained by the Free Press.
Police had received several calls about reckless and dangerous driving by someone in a vehicle matching the description of Jones' black 2017 Chevy Tahoe, with the vanity plate "ELECTED," including a report that a similar vehicle was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-96, according to the reports.
"If you hit me, its going to be very bad for you. Ill call Gov. Whitmer right now," a combative and highly intoxicated Jones told the troopers during a struggle to get him handcuffed, according to the police reports.
