Vice President Pence's attacks are 'why Washington sucks,' Sen. Manchin says

WASHINGTON — One of the most vulnerable Democratic senators facing re-election this year had a blunt response to Vice President Mike Pence's attacks on him Wednesday.

"The vice president’s comments are exactly why Washington Sucks," West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin said in a statement.

Manchin, who recently decided to run for re-election in a state President Donald Trump won by 42 percentage points, was reacting to a series of tweets from the vice president and comments Pence made while speaking at a West Virginia company.

Billed as a speech on the positive impacts of the GOP tax cuts Trump signed into law in December, Pence criticized Manchin for voting against the tax package. Pence also attacked Manchin for not voting to get rid of "the disaster of Obamacare," not voting to defund Planned Parenthood, and not wanting to build a wall along the southern border with Mexico.
