Seventeen high school students were taken to the hospital Friday morning after a school bus and SUV collided in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood, according to Chicago police.

A school bus, transporting suburban high school students and traveling westbound, stopped at a red light in the 3900 block of West 111th Street around 7:30 a.m., police said. A 64-year-old man driving an SUV attempted a right turn in front of the bus, and the bus struck the vehicle’s passenger side, police said.

In all, 19 people were transported to area hospitals in fair condition, police said.

Six students and the two drivers were taken to Little Company of Mary Medical Center. Six students were transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center, and five students to Holy Cross Hospital.
