Not surprised. The surprise is that the LAPD wasn't assisting the Proud Boys.

I had a disturbing experience with an LAPD officer one time. I was working at a casino at the player's club registration booth about 25 years ago. We would ask for an I.D. and take down the information from that. I asked for this man's I.D., and he gave me the most awful sneer and practically threw his I.D. at me. It was an LAPD officer's I.D. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but I took it and typed the information from it into the computer.

The most disturbing part of the experience was that he stared at me the whole time I was typing. It was the most malevolent stare I have ever gotten from anyone, before or since. It was pure hatred. I didn't know what I had done to elicit that reaction, but I pretended like everything was normal and then I handed him back his I.D. with his new player's card. He snatched them out of my hand and stalked off.

I thought then that if that was the quality of person they hired for the LAPD, I wasn't surprised that the Rodney King beating had happened. That guy was pure evil, and I'm sure there are others like him on the force. Chances are I'll never encounter an LAPD cop, thank God, but what about the poor people who live there?
