The original series accomplished the impossible and made the far-fetched concept of a zombie apocalypse REAL. It was immersive and engaging and terrifying. The early seasons drove the plot forward and were very bingeable.
After a few seasons the show trailed off as it settled into a big bad/monster of the week formula. The lack of plot progression was palpable, and I don't believe binging them would be very satisfying. I think this downturn began with the prison thread in Season 3. I did watch all 11 seasons as they came out.

Watching those old westerns brings back some hazy childhood memories for me. I was about five when we got our first TV.

I think such shows give us a sense of accomplishment thru the investigation process.

My wife and I binged the BBC "Poirot" mysteries with David Suchet all through Donnie Diaper's first term.

I think it's because you know right away. Justice will be done by the end of that episode.
