starting at age 5-6. I once commented on a thread here at DU that it takes me about 30 seconds to fall in love with a kitten, and some smartass replied, How come so long?
Ive had assorted shades of tabbies, male and female gingers, a Manx, a Turkish swimming cat, a black cat, an all gray, and a gray and white.
Weve had as many as 5 cats at one time. I think the big jump is from 2-3. After 3, is just, Hey, whats one more?
Weve also had blue eyed cats, and, for me, theres something extra special about cats with blue eyes. Our first looked like a rag doll but had short hair. We only had him for 2,1/2 years and were devastated when he had to be euthanized after throwing a blood clot that paralyzed his hind quarters. It was something called a saddle thrombus, caused by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy -a silent heart disease that leads to thickening of the walls of the heart, which causes blood clots to form. There are usually no symptoms, and there is no treatment once a clot breaks loose.
After that beautiful boy left crossed the Rainbow Bridge, our next blue eyed cat was a dainty little female lynx point Siamese who was with us for 14 years. Our third blue eyed guy was a rag doll mix with medium long hair. He developed a lot of chronic illnesses and died in 2020.
That left us with our black and brown tabby boy, and tuxie female, both of whom have lovely green eyes. I missed having blue eyed cats, and 2 didnt feel like enough, so about 18 months ago, we adopted a brother sister pair of Siamese mix kitties. The brother is a blue point with pale blue eyes, and the sister is a very dark seal point with vivid blue eyes. They are a gorgeous pair, and I could stare at them all day.
