that so many of our business, techbro, religious, political, etc. oiligarchs are so willing to go along with Trump is that he is a perfect shiny object. Almost devoid of the knowledge and informed opinion which gives a politician substance, he can be manipulated to attract attention.
While the rules and procedures which have governed the presidency are eroded and knocked down, Trump keeps attention focused on a fireworks display of inanity.
Long after Trump is gone the legacy of a corrupted and delegitimized presidency will endure.
