Filled with refugees escaping the NAZIs, the USA turned away the MS St. Louis in 1939. While some later found refuge in England and Europe, many aboard would die in the Holocaust. The US Coast Guard even patrolled the waters as the ship passed our shores to prevent anyone from jumping overboard and swimming to safety.
