(255 posts)You cannot compare coeliac disease sufferers to vegetarians or vegans. The former cannot eat cereals, grains and other foods because they are allergic to them but the latter can eat meat but choose not to.
Social rules dictate that you don't make fun of someone's medical condition but you are free to make fun of someone's choices. For example, you don't make fun of someone whose skin condition manifests itself on his or her face but you do make fun of the individual who gets a skull tattooed on his face. That is just how the world works.
The replies to this thread were predictable and I personally find all the rubbing-it-in very amusing. Animals kill other animals for food. It has always been thus and it always will be. Life for an animal in a factory farm is not always optimal but death in a factory farm is at least more 'humane' and clinical than death at the mighty and savage teeth and claws of, say, a tiger.
