40. Having quality locks without reinforcing the frame doesn't do much

An average male in good condition can kick open a door with relative ease even if quality locks are installed. I replaced the short screws in the hinges and strike plate with 3” screws that are long enough to dig into the rough in frame. That won’t stop a determined felon but it may slow them down long enough for my wife and I to retreat to our safe room.

I strongly suggest you have a safe room which you can retreat to and from there also have the means to see and communicate with those who are at your doors. Such as Ring.

My safe room is the master bedroom. The door is solid wood with a deadbolt and is reinforced with 3” screws. We have Ring doorbells with cameras at all 3 entrances so we can see and talk to anyone outside using our cell phones.

I’m just hitting the surface so I recommend you attend a quality training program put out by a reputable organization that will cover the subject of home defense in far greater detail. Then practice what you were taught on a regular basis. Develop and practice a home invasion drill.
