fan and the repression ramped up. I remember the pressure to conform, to marry the "right" person, to get the house and the 2.5 kids. People think it's funny, in some cases it was, but I saw people desperately buying a newer car or bigger car just to try to be "ahead" of their neighbors. The pressure transferred to putting expectations on their kids and their kids looked around at the misery of their parents and said no. The "dropping out" or "doing your own thing" scared the hell out of the powers that be because they don't want people to see or believe in an alternate way to live.

I never believed for one minute the line of crap that the big powerful people really give a crap if some Jewish kid at Harvard feels picked on or is fearful. What the powerful people care about is not letting the students have the kind of power they took in the '60's.
Notice how the big powerful people are sitting back while the ICE raids take place? All about the intimidation. If the students on campus started raising hell about the ICE raids against Latinos to the degree they did about Palestine you would see the powers crack down just as hard. They use the excuse of anti-Semitism, which we all detest, as cover for their crackdown.
