Some nutball, I seem to remember that he lived in a tiny town called Yacolt, Washington, actually tried to French kiss a rattlesnake.
He had brought home a rattlesnake from a trip to the Mojave desert. He was keeping it in his garage. In one of those infamous " hold my beer" moments, he decided to show off for some bro friend of his by French kissing the snake.
Naturally, it bit him on the tongue. 911 had to be called, and he was intubated as they life flighted him to a hospital. I seem to remember that he died.
I can also remember reading about another Darwin award contender who did the same thing. A woman who was an expert in poison snakes actually did an interview explaining that when snakes see the eyes of a larger creature looming towards them, that they will strike because that is the last thing they see before a predator kills them.
It is unbelievable to me that this sort of thing needs to be explained, but thanks to the worship of stupidity and the scorn of intelligence by the broligarchy, very sadly, it needs to be said.
Edit/ update. I googled this incident. It appears that the man merely kissed the snake (twice!). It bit him on his upper lip, not on the tongue. Maybe the French kiss idea came from a different article. Apparently, kissing poison snakes has been tried by a number of people, mostly men. I think for a while it was some kind of trend amongst Fundy Fanatics. I guess my mom was right. Some people only use their head for a hat rack.
