establish an ss.gov account. You may well need access to it at some point. If you do, it will be a lot easier if you have already set it up and know how to log in correctly. Right now, you don't need it. Tomorrow, though, you might.

I'm just saying that it's better to be prepared than not to be.

It's not "what they want," it's how that system works, and there are things you want from them. They're not trying to annoy you, see. That's not their job.
