(634 posts)We have all been frustrated that the only members of the Good Old Putin party who will do the right thing are those who are out of office. And we hear stories every day about the ones still in office cowering in the bunkers for fear of Trump. That has been a cruel reality for over a decade now. And let's not forget that Trump's recruitment by the KGB literally goes back to the 1980s when the KGB was still called the KGB, so these GOP fears are not unfounded.
But the latest polling tells us that we have not moved into a completely opposite universe. After 30 days in office, Trump is now underwater in all the polls, and that is before most people learn the details about what the Putin Party people are planning to do to the entitlement programs. Hell, at this point, most of them are still at the "$7 eggs and who the F is Musk?" stage.
Republicans are cowards, but they can read the polls. Right now, Trump has the worst polls ratings of any President 30 days into his term, but it is only 1-3% underwater. We have to work hard to continue to educate the educable. We can get that rating to -15, maybe even -25. And in that range, some Republican cowards will decide to try to save themselves. It won't take many defections to cause major damage to the Putin/Musk/Trump agenda.
So keep working it. If we can move the needle another 5 points, maybe we'll see more Democrats willing to come out in the open.
