Yesterday

They're all reaping rewards from Trump's coup. This is a party that expelled reasonable people from it. Mitch McConnel is seen as moderate by this group of extremists. You're basically asking, why didn't the Nazis get rid of Hitler? Well, because they were Nazis, they loved Hitler and what he was doing.

The GOP has been building towards this for 50 years. It's what their party has been moving towards the whole time, authoritarianism. Trump is doing everything they dreamed of doing for 50 years. They are Trump, Trump is them.
