President Biden's speech hit me hard last night [View all]

President Biden has been an amazing POTUS and is also a good person. Back in 2019, I got to meet President Biden in person at two fundraisers. At the time, the Biden campaign needed money. I got to discuss stuttering with President Biden and got a Biden hug. President Biden also told me about the 20 or so young stutters who President Biden keeps track of. President Biden and I both discuss that the stutter comes back at times when we are tired. I watched the only 2024 debate and as a stutterer I could tell that many on the supposed mistakes made by President Biden were him dealing with the stutter. I posted on this back at the time.
https://www.democraticunderground.com/100219071415 I was sad to see President Biden step down and still think that President Biden would have been a great POTUS in a second term. (Please understand that Kamala Harris ran a great campaign and should have beaten trump but for the general public's unhappiness with inflation and the economy.)

I was a Clinton delegate to the 2016 National Convention and part of the materials I brought back were floor speech signs that they passed out before each speech. President Biden signed three of the floor speech signs from his speech at the National Convention. One of these signs he inscribed one of his favorite phrases "Keep the Faith." When President Biden used that phrase at the end of his speech, I teared up.

dalton99a posted the full text of President's speech from last night. https://democraticunderground.com/100219907798 Here are the last two paragraphs

My eternal thanks to you, the American people. After 50 years of public service, I give you my word, I still believe in the idea for which this nation stands — a nation where the strength of our institutions and the character of our people matter and must endure. Now it’s your turn to stand guard. May you all be the keeper of the flame. May you keep the faith. I love America. You love it, too.

God bless you all, and may God protect our troops. Thank you for this great honor.

The use of that phrase really hit me hard

I am sad to see President Biden leave office and think that he will go down in history as a truly great president. I am so glad that President Biden tried to warn us about oligarchies and TFG's dangers to our democratic form of government.
