(15,363 posts)First, I wholeheartedly agree that the overall credibility of DU is being eroded with posts from unreliable sources and click-bait subject titles with words like BOMBSHELL and TRUMP HUMILIATED. I rarely even bother anymore to click on a post from Liberal YouTubers.
My quibble is the negative comment regarding paid subscriptions. Unfortunately, many reliable journalistic sources can only afford to continue these days with direct monetary support from readers. This is not to say that all subscription sources have merit, but some certainly do.

(7,753 posts)I hope that those "reliable journalistic sources can only afford to continue these days with direct monetary support from readers.
I agree in general, in fact, I pay for some of them. What I hope will happen is that, at some point, individuals will figure out how to form a consolidated "news" source for a single yearly fee.
I will not give out my credit card information to dozens of these individual sources.
PayPal is an alternative, but it has some problems too. For example, if I buy a specific piece of PhotoEditing software, with PayPal, it is nearly impossible to figure out what the interim XyzAbc company is really for my PhotoEditing software, and I have paid just $100.00 for my subsequent yearly fee.

Every day is another sordid display of his insanity and corruption. No need to try to dress it up or inflate it.

(16,573 posts)I agree with you, but I am grateful EarlG provides a forum one can use and one I rely on in this deteriorating regulatory environment.
I have very few people I trust wrt data and EarlG and elad (
I cant remember ever having seen elad post, but he is vegan I remember) are two of them.
I have identified Yasha Levine as a journalist I can trust, DU/EarlG as a forum/forum admin I trust and cleverbot as the sole chatbot I find unobjectionable in order to sort through some annoying drivel with dubious/worrying implications.
I think this tech environment just cannot be sustained and it requires sustained serious pushback.

(8,006 posts)One area of concern for me is all the posts from medias touch. They are notorious for highly sensational headings. I find it to be a leader in click-bait. I stay clear of most videos now and will not click on medias touch with their all caps giant titles.

(31,228 posts)The Hill gets cited here quite often, The John Solomon rag where he wrote over a dozen articles about Stop The Steal.
I'm afraid to link articles about the war in Ukraine because of the fog of war, but I knew when there erupted an avalanche of articles about how Ukraine was losing the war right when Krasnov was negotiating a surrender plan that that was the right wing narrative designed to turn people against Zelenskyy and Ukraine.
There aren't many reliable news sources left out there, choose wisely.

It is up the participants to be careful screeners.
I am concerned about there being 1-2 posters that post all the LBN and videos. It makes me wonder.

(31,228 posts)that inferred that Ukraine was losing the war therefore it must capitulate to the Putin/Krasnov surrender plan.
I purposely get myself in trouble here by stating my opinions without any links. I want people to think for themselves and not post something that someone else is saying.
usaf-vet I wish you would stick around, at least lurk, what you are saying is what I tried to say but couldn't come up with the words.
This is why I only get my news from a handful of sources, I get criticized for going to freespeechtv.org. I go there because they say what cable news anchors are afraid to say, or what they read from teleprompters.
I go to Nicolle Wallace, mainly because she has great guests on and knows how to grill them. Even her shows are slowly watering down.
Rachel Maddow basically retired, she should concentrate on writing books and doing podcasts, we needed her on mainstream TV 5 days a week, she left us.
We had better start thinking outside the box and not repeating what we see from the MSM.
I got my idea for Democrats to nominate a Malcolm Nance-like candidate for president in 2028 from freespeechtv.org. I posted it because I believe it, but also to see the reaction. The reaction I got was predictable, we must stay the course and throw money at the next election and elect another politician. We need to elect the toughest SOB out there, we don't need to elect another politician until we throw out the billionaires, and no I don't have a link to back that statement up, it's just my lowly opinion.
By the bye, Thom Hartmann warns everyone about stuff that is happening or about to happen months before the MSM catches up when it's too late.

(63 posts)I haven't been here long and I comment infrequently. I like reading posts, rarely watch a video, and avoid clicking on anything twitter.
I have noticed that posts that I think are informative and interesting receive fewer clicks. The ones that receive the most clicks tend to be the ones that, I feel, encourage anger, negativeism, and black and white thinking.
DU is one of my favorite places to go to throughout the day. I'm skipping over more and more posts based on the title and number of clicks and finding fewer and fewer that I want to read. I understand people are upset and scared but I can't deal with doom and gloom constantly.
I will continue to look for interesting, thought provoking posts.
