Here's the Statement of Purpose for this forum, which you can find on the forum's About page:

Discuss the late-night social media rants, unrealistic policy proposals, and ridiculous trial balloons floated by Donald Trump. This forum is intended to separate the nonsense that Donald Trump spews on a daily basis from actual Trump Administration policies and actions. For example, if Donald Trump uses Truth Social to call for an invasion of Mars, it would be appropriate for this forum, whereas if the Trump Administration orders the Joint Chiefs of Staff to draw up plans for an invasion of Mars, it would be appropriate for General Discussion or Latest Breaking News.

The idea of this forum is to try to separate discussions of the crazy things Trump is saying to distract everyone, from discussions of the things that his administration is actually doing in the real world. As such, it may take a while for everyone to get a feel for what discussions should go where. To begin with I'm going to ask the Hosts not to lock anything just yet. I'd like to see how this develops naturally before we start locking things as "off topic."

This is not going to be a perfect solution -- I'm expecting topics to overspill -- but I'd appreciate it if DUers thought about where their thread might be most appropriate going forward, before posting.

This is experimental, so if it turns out that this forum doesn't help anything, we'll likely close it down again. I'll discuss it with you if and when we decide that might be necessary.

the Gulf Of North America, since the U.S.A., Mexico and Cuba are the North American countries which border it. But if it shouldn't be called the Gulf of Mexico because it excludes the USA, it can't be called the Gulf of America or the Gulf of the United States Of America, either.

Removing the garbage from other forums would be ideal, perhaps with an accompanying email to the OP notifying them of the move.

Will there a way to flag/identify posts that belong here instead of where they are originally posted? Or are we hoping that people will know to post here in advance?

We don't currently have a function for moving threads from one forum to another. We could potentially build one if necessary, but I'm not sure how big a project that would be. Otherwise, the remedy is for Forum Hosts to lock off-topic threads and suggest that members repost them in the correct forum. While we're just getting these forums started though, I've asked the Hosts to hold off on locking things for a little bit (unless they're egregiously off-topic). I don't think it would be a great idea to go through GD and lock everything that's in the "wrong" forum at this time. I'd like to see if things develop naturally.

I think most people will catch on fairly quickly. I'm thinking about some that might be more concerned about visibility of their posts than the new rules.

That said, so much of what Trump says and does is performative. So, he might order the Joint Chiefs to draw up plans for an invasion of Mars, knowing full well that they won't actually get very far with that before some other nonsense blows it off the front page and he can quietly say, okay never mind, that was just for attention.

I can't think of a better example at the moment but I think we'll know it when we see it, and I do think we will see it.

But this is a great idea for what we know today.

Just as an observation, there were some criticisms of 'Trump related' topics in the General Discussion forum as being, shall we say, counter to the DU objectives. They saw it as promoting Trump and MAGA agenda and detracting from Democratic philosophy.

I wouldn't debate that opinion but personally feel it's important to remain cognizant of Trump/MAGA propaganda and its gross distortion of truth and reality. As Sun Tzu said, “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles..."

Along that line of thought, I'd suggest modifying the Forum title to "Latest Trump & MAGA BS." Trump is the Master Bullsh!tter for certain but Musk, MTG, Jordan, Comer, X et al. greatly amplify the BS propaganda landscape.

I go to X every day and subject myself to the BS for as long a time as I can endure and refute/debunk a few MAGA/Trump lies. It's a near futile effort in the overall battle to preserve our democracy but it's one more voice against the Trump tyranny.

I would say either scenario qualifies as batsh!t crazy...

If Trump is talking, he's lying. I rarely reference any topic about him that wasn't 'talk.' So I won't have any problem deciding where to post my topics. In fact, the new forum will be my 'default' choice. Whether he said or it comes out as an Administration announcement, it will be bullsh!t...

If he were to say something sensible and pro-democracy (which is highly unlikely), I sure as hell won't repeat it on this forum or anywhere else.

I'm at war with sonofabitch...he gets no passes from me.
