1. Trump will do as he pleases

The Kremlin, which knows perfectly well that any peace deal depends on Mr. Zelensky, the guy in the green T-shirt who thus far won't give up on his dream of recovering his country's lost Russian-speaking southeastern limb, has never trusted Trump even as far as Mr. Putin could throw him over the railing on the bridge of spies. Trump will get pushback on any unilateral attempt to cut off aid. As I have no idea what will happen, I'm not making a prediction here. But it will take some time to push the belligerents to the table even if that's what Trump means to do. And we shouldn't forget that people are getting killed in this war. Ukrainians on the street where the power is out and the missile strikes are hitting aren't thinking about Trump nearly as much as we are. They're thinking about the cold and darkness they face as winter deepens its grip above the 50th parallel there. Pretty soon the pipes will be frozen as well.
