Trump's dictatorial dreams tripped up by the democratic problem of public opinion - Rachel Maddow - MSNBC

Rachel Maddow looks at the frequency with which Donald Trump is humiliated by having to walk back a power grab or extreme executive action, from blanket funding freezes to belligerent tariffs, after it becomes clear how unpopular these ideas are with the American public. - Aired on 02/04/2025.

While you're correct, on one hand, Trump doesn't care about public opinion. The election's over. He "won".

OTOH, Trump's massive mega-ego can't handle criticism, esp. on a large scale. He's a media whore. While FOX can laud him for his "political savvy," he sneaks in a peak at MSNBC and can't handle factual truth. He's been outed. And not universally loved.

I believe the latter is what's governing his impulses and no advisor can make him override it.
