While you're correct, on one hand, Trump doesn't care about public opinion. The election's over. He "won".
OTOH, Trump's massive mega-ego can't handle criticism, esp. on a large scale. He's a media whore. While FOX can laud him for his "political savvy," he sneaks in a peak at MSNBC and can't handle factual truth. He's been outed. And not universally loved.
I believe the latter is what's governing his impulses and no advisor can make him override it.
