TV commercials are all about how much money the campaign has to spend. Theoretically quality of the commercials matters, but in practice, they buy the best quality they can afford. Kamala has the edge in direct campaign contributions, but I'm not sure about dark money super PACs.
Personal appearances are all about time management. If you can appear in 3 swing states in a day, that shows them you care and may gain you some votes. If you take days off and play golf, you're losing time. If you travel long distances, that travel time may cost you. So the smart play is to keep visiting Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, and occasionally Georgia. If Virginia or North Carolina look like they are in play, visit them, too. Visiting Arizona, though, that will take all day for one appearance so it's not really cost effective. Going back home to Florida, then traveling to Wisconsin eats up time, too. Disadvantage Trump.
Kamala Harris gets another advantage in that Tim Walz gets great reviews and his appearances are almost as valuable as hers. JD Vance gets terrible reviews and we keep getting hints that Trump may drop him. So he doesn't count as much.
If Trump has started limiting his personal appearances, is that a sign he's giving up? He looks awfully low energy, even despondent in his appearances lately.
