Do not post bug reports in this forum!
This forum is for general questions and answers about how to use DU4, and the differences between DU4 and DU3. If you have a bug report, please DO NOT post it in this forum -- instead, use the
DU4 Bug Reports forum. If you post a bug report in this forum, it will be locked.
Terminology
DU4 is the name for the new software at
https://du4.democraticunderground.com that's being tested right now. The original Democratic Underground site at
https://www.democraticunderground.com is referred to as DU3.
How to access DU4
During the testing period you can access DU4 by simply making a slight change to the URL of any DU page in your browser's address bar. Any URL that starts "www" will take you to DU3. If you replace "www" with "du4" you'll be taken to the DU4 version of the page. For example:
The home page as displayed by the DU3 software:

Anything you do on DU4 will also happen on DU3
You are not in a closed environment on DU4! Both DU4 (the test site) and DU3 (the original site) are running off the same database. So if you post on DU4, people using regular old DU3 will be able to see that post. Same for recommending posts, alerting, serving on Juries, etc. etc. etc. This
doesn't apply if you're using a brand new DU feature -- for example, recommending a reply. Using DU4-exclusive functions will not affect anything on DU3, so you can go ahead and play around with them as much as you like.
You may get kicked back to DU3 from time to time -- this is not a bug
There may be times when you are forced back to DU3 after completing a task -- for example, upon finishing Jury service. THIS IS NOT A BUG. It's just that the "www" URL is hardcoded into the software at that point, so you are taken back to DU3. If this happens, you don't need to report it -- just manually change the URL in your address bar by replacing "www" with "du4" and you'll be good to go. (After DU4 is officially launched, this will no longer be an issue.)
If you see functionality that you think you shouldn't, please tell me immediately
If you're a regular member (ie. not an Admin, Forum Host, or member of MIRT) you should not see any functionality specific to those roles. If you do, that's obviously a big problem so please
let me know immediately!
How to find this forum again
Use the "Navigate" button to go to "Help & Search" and you will find the DU4 Bugs and Feedback forum listed in the "Special Forums" section.
Forums in the "Retired" section may not actually be retired
To be clear I do plan to retire some old forums and consolidate others on DU4, but the list which currently exists in the Retired section is NOT final. For more information,
read this.
