(58,785 posts)would not have been a "new" person, but she's living refutation of Sanders' dishonest criticism/smear. (What a team B-W would make in the WH!)
To defeat Trump, Democrats have made excellent progress by kicking Sanders to the side while Biden focused on running against the Republicans and for America. Of course neither Sanders nor Trump are likely to understand that their problems are their own doing as they're both still waiting for giant waves of support to rescue them.

(2,042 posts)BTW, as long as were talking about Bernie, Bidens coalition is a lot broader. Thats why he beat Bernie soundly all over the country.

(360 posts)They don't show up to vote as has been proven.
In fact, Biden got 70% of the "new" people who had not voted the past few elections.

More New People Voted for Joe Biden than Sanders and BS Spent 4x More $$$$ to Lose than Biden did to Win.
Joe Biden got "new voters" "in his political world" in these states..
Sanders stayed at his 30% base.. so I don't think Biden needs any advice from BS on "New People".

(11,949 posts)To finally decide to go to the polls. Joe will get all the Obama collation that too many sat out in 16.
Plus the non-interested independents who were never going to vote for Hillary but like Joe.
But maybe the most important. There are 3-5% of republican voters who reluctantly pulled the lever for trump or did not vote top of ticket who were never gonna vote for Hillary. They will vote for Joe. I work with 3 of them I know of. There are probably more. Most people dont follow politics like we do. If trump loses 2% of his 16 republican voters it will be a landslide for Joe.

(11,949 posts)But as you probably know Ive been for Joe even before he declared.
Just could not see the advantage of adding to the, admittedly reduced rancor, we saw in 16.
One advantage of this virus. Ive been furloughed for at least 6 weeks. We are fine as our healthcare is covered and we have resources and benefit time most Americans dont.
So tomorrow Im calling the county Democratic Party office to see how I can help.
Hope you are well. Seems like your state is determined to keep it away until there is a vaccine.
Luck of geography.
Take care.

(305,182 posts)over.. mostly.
I didn't remember exactly that you have been for Biden even before he declared.. which was his Launch Vid on April 25, 2019. I was for him too in anticipation that he would be the one to beat trump and I liked him for the job.
And, Joe Biden came through for us supporters.. and most of us were there for him through thick and thin and back again.
Good on you volunteering to help the Dem Party there.. All hands on Deck!
Hawaii is doing everything it can to impede the spreading of CV.. our Island of Kauai is the least affected. 18 cases here for the last 3 days and no deaths is encouraging..
Honolulu: 328
Maui: 54

Like you said. "..luck of geography.. " I was thinking about that the other day. As in sometimes I've wished I were back on the mainland to see my friends and my family there more.. and I miss all the best organic produce in California.. but now it's good to be here at this time in history.. knock on wood!
You and your family take care, too.. Aloha & Mahalo

And in particular, his decisive win over Sanders in the primary without even campaigning in many states further highlights the limitations of progressive politics in America, at least in winning a national campaign.
Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist, made a bad bet on the existence of a national progressive majority (as did Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., who ran as a progressive populist but dropped out after Super Tuesday). It turns out there's nothing even close.
In fact, its not even clear that a progressive majority exists within the Democratic Party. What does exist is a moderately center-left party with a vocal progressive element.
Sanders frequently said on the campaign trail that he was leading a multigenerational, multiracial movement, pledging to mobilize an army of new, young voters. But it turns out older and moderate voters are the ones that grew as a share of the Democratic primary electorate since 2016 and they favored Biden by a wide margin.
Take the South Carolina primary on Feb. 29, which Biden won, or the 10 of 14 states he captured on Super Tuesday: In all, he appealed to the same coalitions that boosted Democrats so strongly in the 2018 midterm elections, turning out large numbers of suburban voters, while maintaining support from longstanding elements of the Democratic coalition, particularly African American voters.....
Still, with the 2020 Democratic primary process essentially over, its clear that the hard-core Democratic left was deluded in their assertions that they were the new Democratic majority. They are going to need a better grip on reality if they are to be successful at the national level moving forward

Yang speaks to guaranteed income and that sure is revelant to the current corona depression.
Sanders too with healthcare to all & no cost education is very relevant in these current times.
