I so hate the idea of postponing the convention

I want this primary over. I am tired of this dragging on, and I am concerned that supporters of losing candidates will have their hopes raised cruelly by postponing the convention.

I'm sure that organizers and planners dealt with a lot of details that I'm not aware of, but I do wish that they had kept the same date and gone to teleconferencing, or other means.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Bernie is disqualified from the presidency by virtue of the fact that he is endangering the populace of several states by forcing the primary process to continue despite the fact he has no longer got a path to the nomination. When states like mine, NY, and other are struggling with the virus... to force the state to spend money and effort on an election that will endanger the voters is manifestly, un-presidential and he is absolutely DISQUALIFIED for failing the leadership test.
Just MHO.
(Full disclosure, I voted for Bernie in 2016 and am utterly done with him.)

Since the 1980s, the Republican primary was a place where bozos and crackpots went in order to increase their public profile and get a bigger audience to sell books.

I really dislike the idea of the Democratic primary becoming a place where people put their ego first and use the campaign and the primary as a platform in order to sell their books or get their name out there.

I believe that the presidential primaries should be a place where legitimate candidates with legitimate and reality-based goals of becoming president run for office.

I hate dragging this thing out. Ugh.

He is, after all, the only Democrat remaining in the contest.

The Democratic Party should begin now to consider Mr. Biden in all ways its nominee. Its leading figures should speak out for him and begin to campaign and raise funds for him. 'Bernie' should be ignored, and made to run explicitly against the Democratic Party. It is the only way to draw his teeth in regard to the general election, and the best way to minimize the size of his cult following.

If these things are done, postponement of the convention, which does seem indicated by concerns of public health, will make sense politically as well.

"Fortune favors the bold."

"From Bernie’s perspective, dropping out of a race once you have no chance of winning is peculiar behavior that can only be explained by the work of a hidden hand. For most politicians, though, it is actually standard operating procedure. Only Sanders seems to think the normal thing to do once voters have made clear they don’t want to nominate you is to continue campaigning anyway."

"When things are not called by their right names, what is said cannot make sense. When what is said does not make sense, what is planned cannot succeed. When plans do not succeed, people become uneasy. When people are uneasy, punishments do not fit crimes. When punishments do not fit crimes, people cannot know where to put hand or foot."

It is unlikely that vaccination will be available before August. It is unlikely that the virus will have disappeared, and a large gathering of thousands of excited people packed into a stadium would be deadly.

I think canceling the convention and moving to virtual would have been the right idea.

But, as I mentioned above, maybe they were looking at details I am unaware of.

I suspect any mass gathering in August will still be dangerous for all who attend. The Democrats need to move on to a virtual convention... NOW!
